Even bishops should be held accountable

The long history of covered-up sexual abuses committed by priests within the Catholic Church has stained the reputation of the religious institution and remains a sensitive topic for Catholic members and clergymen. When such abuse cases are discovered, victims are often silenced and the offenders are whisked away to a new environment.
Bishops, higher ranked ministers holding local jurisdiction, often participate in such cover-ups and are not held responsible. However, Pope Francis has approved of a new office that will investigate bishops who cover up sexual abuse cases committed by priests.
