‘Silence,’ Scorsese’s masterpiece about Jesuit priests in Japan, is film we’ve been praying for

Silence" speaks loudly. It's a demand for religious tolerance. A cry against injustice. A rebuke to European arrogance. And a strikingly sung psalm to the power of faith — and doubt.
That's not surprising, coming from Martin Scorsese. At least it shouldn't be. Over his long career he made one controversial movie about Jesus, another mostly unseen one about the Dalai Lama.
