Pa. Senate appears divided on bill that would protect Catholic Church from sex-abuse lawsuits

Republican leaders in the Senate appeared to be struggling late Wednesday to muster enough support for a plan to temporarily allow older victims of child sexual abuse to sue their attackers — but not the deep-pocketed institutions, such as the Catholic Church, that may have covered up the crimes. Shortly before 10 p.m. on the last voting day of the legislative session, Republicans who control the Senate appeared to be losing critical votes for the latest proposal championed by Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R., Jefferson).
