The first time I ever heard the truth about Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, the former archbishop of Washington, D.C., finally exposed as a sexual predator years into his retirement, I thought I was listening to a paranoiac rant. It was the early 2000s, I was attending some earnest panel on religion, and I was accosted by a type who haunts such events — gaunt, intense, with a litany of esoteric grievances. He was a traditionalist Catholic, a figure from the church’s fringes, and he had a lot to say, as I tried to disentangle from him, about corruption in the Catholic clergy. The scandals in Boston had broken, so some of what he said was familiar, but he kept going, into a rant about Cardinal McCarrick: Did you know he makes seminarians sleep with him? Invites them to his beach house, gets in bed with them …

Francis accepts two more Chilean bishops' resignations in continuing abuse fallout

Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of two more Chilean Catholic bishops, bringing to five the number of prelates he has replaced so far as part of the continuing fallout from the country's clergy sexual abuse crisis. In a brief note June 28, the Vatican announced that Francis had effectively removed both Talca Bishop Horacio Valenzuela Abarca and Rancagua Bishop Alejandro Goić Karmelić. At age 78, Goić was well past the traditional retirement age of 75. But Valenzuela, at age 64, had an expected 11 years of service left to the church.

Church body warns of legal barriers to addressing abuse failings

The Catholic Church’s child protection watchdog has said legal barriers are preventing it from addressing “serious and widespread” failings in how some allegations of clerical sexual abuse are handled. Data protection concerns are preventing the National Board for Safeguarding Children from keeping a central database of priests who are facing child abuse allegations, with potentially “devastating consequences for children”, the organisation’s board told the Department of Justice in April.

Lawmakers call for Matt Flynn to exit Wisconsin governor's race over priest abuse cases

Taylor and Sargent point to records released in 2013 as part of the Milwaukee Archdiocese’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. Those documents show while he represented the Archdiocese of Milwaukee from 1989-2004 as an attorney with Quarles & Brady, Flynn played a central role developing and administering a system where priests known to have abused children were kept in ministry, transferred to other parishes or paid off rather than reported to police.

'You Don't Trust the Church; You Trust Jesus' says Nassar Victim

Harvard students gave former gymnast and sexual abuse survivor Rachael Denhollander a standing ovation Thursday night after she spoke about living with both justice and forgiveness. Denhollander was the first person to publicly accuse gymnast doctor Larry Nassar of sexual abuse. She stepped into the national spotlight in January when she was the last of more than 150 women and girls to confront Nassar in court during his sentencing hearing for criminal sexual conduct.

Prosecutor jabs back after DeLand's attorney calls charges 'outright appalling'

DeLand, of Freeland, originally was charged in February with criminal sexual conduct for allegedly assaulting two males, ages 21 and 17. Det. Brian Berg with the Tittabawassee Township Police Department said three of the new charges involved the same victim from the original February charges. The fourth charge involved an additional 18-year-old victim who claims DeLand tried to sexually assault him inside St. Agnes Church in May 2017.

Priest followed 2 sex abuse victims from North Tonawanda to Atlanta, mother says

When Janet and Frank Larango moved from North Tonawanda to an Atlanta suburb, they were happy the Catholic priest they considered part of their family also made the move. The Rev. Stanley Idziak, who had celebrated Masses at Our Lady of Czestochowa parish in the 1960s and 1970s, arranged to have himself transferred in 1978 to the Larangos' new parish 900 miles away. The Larangos did not suspect anything beyond friendship was motivating Idziak's move.

Lawsuit: Priest abused boy while ordering him to stand in praye

A now deceased priest has been accused of sexually abusing a boy who had been ordered to stand in prayer with his eyes closed, according to a lawsuit filed against the Archdiocese of Agana Friday in federal court. The plaintiff, identified in court documents only as J.M.R. to protect his privacy, said in his lawsuit that Father Ray Techaira sexually abused him in about 1984 at the Asan parish office after the boy asked a question that upset the priest.

James Faluszczak, now of Buffalo, said he testified about the abuse before a grand jury investigating the Catholic Diocese of Erie. A former northwestern Pennsylvania priest has provided a glimpse into a Pennsylvania grand jury’s investigation of the Catholic Diocese of Erie. James Faluszczak, who resigned from the active priesthood in the Erie diocese in 2014, said he testified before the grand jury about how a priest in Erie sexually abused him when he was a teenager in the 1980s.

Fr Seamus Reid connected to sex abuse at St Colman's

A second priest has been connected to sexual abuse at St Colman's College in Newry during the 1960s, the Nolan Show reports. Fr Seamus Reid, who died in 2001, was not a teacher but did visit the school. In 2015 the Catholic church confirmed that a catalogue of allegations had been made against the priest. In February, it came to light that Fr Malachy Finegan, who taught at St Colman's from 1967 to 1976, had sexually abused pupils.

The 13 starving siblings held captive in a California house were allowed to eat only one rationed meal a day and shower just twice a year, a law enforcement official with knowledge of the case told NBC News. Scot stripped of MBE after sex abuse history revealed

AN “UPSTANDING citizen” given an MBE for services to a Scottish town has been stripped of the honour by the Queen after he was jailed for battering and sexually abusing children. Trevor Francis received his 2012 Queen’s Birthday Honours award from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace for his services to the community in Aberdour, Fife, where he worked as a station master for more than 20 years.

Lynette Haines, 69, is single and doesn't own a home - she receives $390 a week through superannuation.
The cheapest liveable rentals available in Tauranga cost around $300 a week, which Ms Haines said would leave her just $90 for essentials, healthcare, and food. She instead lives in a 3.3 metre caravan - just long enough for an average man to lie down arms stretched overhead - at a campground for $154 a week.

A thirteen-year-old Oregon boy was sentenced to 90 days for not wanting to associate or communicate with his mother. The boy claims that his mother bit his ear and that she is now denying doing so. This young man did nothing wrong, yet he has basically been incarcerated without having committed any crime whatsoever – unbelievable!
On February 1, 2017, Brian Hegler, under court order by Jackson Co. Circuit Court Judge Timothy Gerking reluctantly drove his thirteen-year-old son to New Vision Wilderness Therapy, almost 200 miles away from their home in Medford, OR. The court order stated that Brian’s son would have to attend the program which specializes in, “treating issues of adoption, trauma, anxiety and addiction,” for 90 days, or until completion.

A story of a priest accused of abuse, friendship and a long search for justice
