State must investigate Harrisburg diocese

Susan Blum of New Freedom, talks about discovering her abuser on a list of other priests who molested children. Jason Plotkin, York Daily Record A list of accused priests reported by YDR might represent just the steeple of a massive cathedral of child exploitation.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane was on trial this week, defending herself against charges she says were trumped up by the old boys’ network in our state’s judicial system. So she might have been too distracted to read YDR’s story about priests accused of sexual abuse in the Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg, which includes York County.

Anna Nolan: 'I knew nuns and priests who loved to meet for a snog - and some light petting'

Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin is not happy with how the Maynooth seminary is being run, so he has decided to send his trainee priests to the Irish College in Rome. Other bishops don’t seem too put out.
By the sound of things, there seems to be a few shenanigans going on in Maynooth. Not only is there alleged use of dating sites, you naughty boys, but they’re all ratting on each other through anonymous letters and blogs.

The deafening silence of child abuse

Child abuse is largely preventable. But the burden of prevention has rested for too long on our children’s tiny shoulders.
Stories of abuse are strange. Sometimes they are blazing headlines — ’18 month old raped in Kolkata’, ‘Teenagers rape toddler in Delhi — but mostly, they silently wrap up inside themselves. This is the story of some of those untold stories, the ones that were desperately locked away in the dusty attics of childhood, untouched and uncleaned..

Tears as sex abuse statute of limitations Bill introduced in Parliament

The Queensland Parliament took a step forward in giving institutional child sex abuse survivors greater, and fairer grounds for seeking civil justice, but for the LNP and cross bench, it did not go far enough.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk personally introduced the bill that will remove the statute of limitations for those who suffered abuse while in institutions. Other measures, which include expanding that offer to those who suffered abuse outside institutions - such as families - will be decided after consultation.

Spiritual but not religious

"Spiritual but not religious" (SBNR) is a popular phrase and initialism used to self-identify a life stance of spirituality that takes issue with organized religion as the sole or most valuable means of furthering spiritual growth. Spirituality places an emphasis upon the well-being of the "mind-body-spirit",[1] so "holistic" activities such as tai chi, reiki, and yoga are common within the SBNR movement.[2] In contrast to religion, spirituality has often been associated with the interior life of the individual.[3]

German bishops say Martin Luther treated unfairly

In a shock to Roman Catholic traditionalists, the church bishops of Germany are praising Martin Luther, calling him a “Gospel witness and teacher of the Faith.”
A new report released last week by the German Bishops’ Conference, “The Reformation in Ecumenical Perspective,” Catholic Bishop Gerhard Feige, chairman of the German Bishops’ Ecumenical Commission, says the “history of the Reformation has encountered a changeable reception in the Catholic Church, where its event and protagonists were long seen in a negative, derogatory light.”

Documents detail harassment complaints against Nienstedt

Former New Ulm teen tells of hotel incident. A Twin Cities priest's summer trip with John Nienstedt was about to get excruciatingly uncomfortable.
The priest had joined the then-bishop of New Ulm, Minn., on a visit to Nienstedt's second home, not far from Lake Huron in Michigan. It was July 2004. At the time, the 37-year-old man considered Nienstedt, 20 years his senior, a close platonic friend.

Devil's Advocate The Onerous Role of Accomplice

Being a witness to violence is a disturbing experience to any individual, but can be especially traumatic to the impressionable eyes and mind of a child. It is a rising issue happening behind closed doors, but still a well-known problem.
Domestic violence in the home effects the entire family, not just the adults involved. When children are exposed to the abuse of a parent, they can develop a host of mental issues as a result. Even if the abuse is not of a physical nature, the impact of verbal or emotional abuse between parents can have the same lasting effects on the mental well-being of a child.

When a Child Lives With the Secret of Sexual Abuse

When The Words Can't Come Out - Behavior Often, But Not Always, Speaks
Sexual abuse is innately psychological - it affects a person's sense of body autonomy, self worth, ability to trust others, properly identify safe and unsafe situations, and to simply focus on daily tasks in an efficient and healthy manner.
There is no exact 'road map' for how the brain will respond to sexual abuse, there are a multitude of factor that come into play - the child's family situation, their own age and mental capacity, who the offender is and how the abuse is being perpetrated, just to list a few. To say that there is a 'typical' response to abuse is not only ignorant, it's also hurtful to survivors essentially shaming them for not acting the 'right' way, as if their behavior somehow lessens the impact of the abuse and puts blame on the subject of the abuse.
