Diane Croghan was 13 years old when she climbed
inside a laundry van to escape the Sisters of Mercy Training School in
Summerhill, Co Wexford. After
more than three years of isolation, hard work and abuse at the
Magdalene laundry at Summerhill, Diane decided to run away to Dublin.
“It
was dreadful, we weren’t allowed to speak with one another,” she says.
“I think we worked from 7am-7pm but I’m not sure. We didn’t know the
time, we had nothing to show us what time it was.”
