KISSING the feet of a sexual abuse survivor confirmed Canberra
Goulburn Archbishop Christopher Prowse’s view that the Church must do
more than “a lot of talking” if it wants sufferers to heal. Archbishop Prowse knelt to wash and kiss the feet of Mark Stiles, a
Salvation Army hostel sexual abuse survivor, at an ecumenical national
prayer service in Canberra last month.
Kissing Mr Stile’s feet before 600 people was a way for leaders of Christian Churches who attended, including the Salvation Army and the Catholic Church, to express symbolically their sorrow for the “unpleasant situation” of sexual abuse, Archbishop Prowse said.
