A Queensland survivor says the Royal Commission into Institutional
Responses to Child Sexual Abuse has given him the courage to speak out
about what happened to him. Rockhampton resident Bob Cox told the inquiry in 2013 that he was
sexually and physically assaulted over four years at a number of
Queensland institutions during the 1960s, including Westbrook near
Toowoomba.
"It took me 45 years before I could talk about it," he said. "I still have nightmares and bad memories of what happened. "When you get bashed and kicked on the ground and you can't walk away, you crawl away, it still hurts." He says he has had four stomach operations because of the abuse he endured at Westbrook and will need another soon.
