This week’s disclosures about child
abuse and its cover-up by Jehovah’s Witnesses has again shown why the
work of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child
Sexual Abuse matters so much.
The sect is the commission’s 29th case study since September 2013. And there is still a long way to go because the depravity that destroyed young lives, which was hidden for decades, was so widespread. The commission’s report should provide insights and guidance about the best strategies for preventing such crimes and dealing with them in future. Current and past church leaders and others are morally obliged to co-operate. The vast majority are doing so.
