Whoever coined the phrase "better the devil you know"
hadn't reckoned on the devastation wrought by clerical child abuse, so
compellingly conveyed by The Devil's Playground, which finished – rather grimly – on TV One, Sunday.
To say it's the best drama from Australia in a long time is no mean compliment, given the strong output from across the Tasman. But this series is extra-special because, though fictional, it gives us insight into real events – crimes replicated here in much the same way.
