A
lobby group wants Pope Francis to highlight critical human rights
concerns during his tour of Kenya, Uganda and Central Africa Republic. In a letter to the Pope before he flew out of Rome yesterday, Human
Rights Watch asked the head of the Catholic Church to speak out strongly
on matters of justice in the three countries.
“This landmark visit is a key moment for Pope Francis to stand with all victims of human rights abuses,” HRW said through its Africa director Daniel Bekele. It urged the Pope to speak about civil and political rights, religious tolerance, and respect for sexual and gender minorities as well as other pressing human rights concerns.
