The royal commission into child sexual abuse has made almost
800 referrals to police, believed to be the largest number of any royal
commission. The revelation is contained in a speech to be delivered today by the chairman of the commission, judge Peter McClellan.
Mr McClellan said since the commission first sat in public in April 2013, he had referred 792 matters to authorities, mostly police. The high number is illustrated by a comparison with the trade union royal commission, which has made 26 referrals in its first year.
