The case sounds familiar - multiple individuals sue a once-trusted
adult in a trusted institution, alleging they were sexually abused as
children decades ago. But it isn’t a priest-abuse case such as those that have rocked the Catholic Church for more than 20 years. It’s a case against the Stamford Board of Education.
It involves Robert Martinez, a gym teacher at Rogers Elementary School in the 1970s and ‘80s. The first claim against him was filed in 2013. Now there are seven plaintiffs who are seeking to consolidate their cases against Martinez, then-Principal Edward Mathews and the school board.
