I appreciated the article regarding the
temporary lifting of the statute of limitations for adults who were
sexually abused as children. Ironically, when one turned the page in
that same issue, there was an attorney’s ad that stated, “Abused by
clergy in MN? Deadline to bring a claim is May 25, 2016.”
There
has been a statute of limitations for those who wish to pursue legal
action against their abuser. That statute of limitations was six years.
An individual who was victimized during their childhood or adolescence
had six years from the time they became an adult in which to start the
legal process. Beyond the age of 24, those individuals had no legal
recourse.http://www.echopress.com/opinion/letters/3998904-letter-place-abuse-survivors-first
