ALTHOUGH not yet finished, the Royal Commission into Institutionalised
Responses to Child Sexual Abuse has produced some shocking revelations
and, as Scott Sawyer says, they are truly horrific (Daily, February 8). The Federal Government has announced about $800 million in compensation.
Scott quite rightly asks: why shouldn't the Catholic Church be totally
responsible for compensation for all their abuse victims, especially as
he reports that it has been estimated that "the Catholic Church's tax
exemptions at somewhere in the order of $16 billion annually in
Australia".
