Sydney's Anglican archbishop has
delivered a public apology to the mother of an abuse victim, whose
untimely death has sparked a new protocol in his name. Wayne
Guthrie, 47, died in December 2015, the month before he was supposed to
give evidence at the royal commission about his abuse at the hands of
Church of England Boys Society leader Simon Jacobs.
Archbishop Glenn Davies said Mr Guthrie's mother should have been able to expect the St Ive's CEBS group, which her son joined in 1979, was a safe environment. Mr Guthrie's abuse came to the attention of the local church leadership in the early 90s but nothing was done, he said.
