Last fall, St. Louis Archbishop Robert J. Carlson promised to publish the names of clergy who had substantiated claims of sexual abuse of minors against them, as a first step toward the healing and reconciliation the Catholic Church needs surrounding the ongoing scandal of individual priests and, in the minds of many, of coverup within the Church itself.
Last week, he fulfilled that promise, releasing the names of the 64 criminals, some of whom were charged and imprisoned during their lifetimes. Others — many — were removed from ministry and have since died.
