A GRANDAD told yesterday how he was robbed of his childhood after
being subjected to savage beatings at a home run by nuns.
The pensioner said one Sister in particular made his life hell when
he was sent to Nazareth Lodge in South Belfast aged just six.
He was uprooted from his family in 1937 because he was born out of
wedlock and his mother was epileptic.
Speaking on BBC Radio Ulster's Sunday Sequence programme the man, who wants to remain anonymous, broke down several times as he revealed he was battered for wetting his bed. He added: "Those years I was in there I was ill-treated by one nun particularly, Sister Hildegarde. Whenever I wet the bed it was normal practice to be taken to the bathroom and put into a large bath and filled up with water to my neck.
