MARK COLVIN: A former bishop of Rockhampton has admitted to the royal
commission today that he failed to protect children in his diocese from a
paedophile priest.
Bishop Brian Heenan conceded that his handling of allegations of historical child sex abuse at St Joseph's Orphanage near Rockhampton had been "inadequate". The commission is investigating child sex abuse at the orphanage between 1940 and 1975.
