It seems the alleged cover-ups by bishops and archbishops, as
detailed in the Royal Commission Into Institutional Responses to Child
Sexual Abuse, have left many Catholics shocked. Only 12 per cent
of Catholics now attend Mass on Sundays, and, as we were taught that
missing Mass is a mortal sin, this means that 88 per cent of Catholics
have turned their backs on the faith.
The problem with sex, sin and crime in the Catholic Church is much greater than most people realise. Orthodox teaching holds that all sex is sinful unless a man and a woman are married and intending to create a child.
