“Spotlight” may be a film drawn from previous events, but it is not a
film about the past—although it seems that with every screening at least
one person affected by the Catholic Church’s horrific cycles of child
abuse comes out of the woodwork with a tale to tell.
On Saturday night at Guild Hall in East Hampton, it was—unexpectedly—David Nugent, artistic director of the Hamptons International Film Festival, which featured the drama as one of this year’s Centerpiece Films.
