SYDNEY, Australia - Australian federal police in Victoria are
considering whether to charge a Catholic cardinal and Vatican financial
chief over allegations of child abuse, officials said Wednesday.
George Pell, a senior representative of the Australian Catholic Church, is suspected of sexually abusing minors when he served as a priest in the city of Ballarat (1976-80) and archbishop of Melbourne (1996-2001).
